Before one judge me as a sour grape, cheapskate and so on..... i have more than enough auction worthy- insured timepiece than most people and most likely the person reading and judging now....
Anyway for those who do not have deep pockets but have the passion for timepiece collection (eg. me 15yrs back).. Let me start you off with this watch i pick up in Osaka on my recent trip from the ABENO dept store.
Orient Star is a small watchmaker in Japan and is currently owned by Seiko. They still produced their watches in house by hand, they are the first to have their inhouse movement in japan and the workmanship remain excellent. you get real bang for your buck considering this cheap watch cost less than a strap change at Patek Philippe.
This version i have is a Japan domestic model with limited production, no exports. Have a 40 hr reserve, in house exclusive movement, automatic and self winding, sapphire crystal for both front and clear caseback and pressure tested for 300m diving use and it not marketed as a diver watch. cant resist!
beware some website who claim to sell the make at absurdly cheap price, these are refurbished set with non original parts. absolutely rip off and no resale value and the worst part is you paid for function rather than heritage and movement not matter how cheap.
