Algae Killer- Blagdon barley extract

I dont have an algae problems in the few tanks i have. Thats because i have UV sterilizer in all of them. lol, but seriously the cost of running those high wattage UV bulbs is not cheap not to mention they need to be replaced at the cost of $100 and up per bulb after one year of use.

If you are talking about ponds, installing UV is a major cost. If your Algae problems is not too serious, i would recommend adding anti algae solutions to your pond. Chemical type is not recommended for the well being of your fish and any kids that might touch the water. i have been using this barley extract based solutions to control algae on my pond and it works quite well.  available from polyart in clementi.

Jungle labs parasite clear- not available in SG

I maintain a 30 ft by 20ft pond for my grandma and i keep koi in it. There was a breakout of fish lice once and while a few brands of medications failed me, Jungle labs as recommended by someone who used it before. It save the 30 kois in the pond. took only 1 dose but gave it another dose after a week just to be sure. At that time, the very effective waterlife parazin was not available yet. I have a few spare box lying at home and they are available for sale. i bought it from the US via Vpost and it cost around $300 including the very expensive shipping.  It is not available in Singapore. please see listing if you want

http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum/showthread.php/79089-Consumables-Jungle-Lab-Parasite-clear-Fizz-tablets?p=593404#post593404

Each tablet treat 40 liter and each box contain 100 tablets. i have 5 spare box, 4 unopened. will sell per tab as well $1 per tab

Waterlife Medications Charts

I am convinced from my experience with waterlife products that they are indeed one of the best. i dont want to say best just in case some smart alec send me a message telling me what they are using is better. just like cars, its akin to comparing Audi and Bmw. the argument goes on and on. I myself was introduced to waterlife medications by a friend as well. It is important for every hobbyist to keep at least 4 types of  waterlife medications on standby. these 4 generally cover almost all the commonly found diseases.

GEX thermometer

Decided to get some extra thermometers today for backup as well as for the Sump tank. the crappy Dymax conked out again. Heard a lot of good things about GEX, for those who don't know, GEX is a major Japanese aquarium hobby company. Nothing too professional but "Japanese" quality are still present in some of its products. Was shocked to find their submerged thermometer goes for $26 retail! More expensive than my American marine wireless temperature station. Was assured by C328 that it is the most accurate you can find and very popular among hobbyist. went for it anyway and picked up the glass mercury type thermometer from GEX as well. this one is only $3. this one is sure to be accurate, use the most reliable heat measure, mercury but unsightly nonetheless

True enough the GEX work well, i double tested it  with both lab use mercury thermometer and laser thermometer. the readings are exactly the same on all 3, unlike the American marine with deviations of 0.3+-, the worst is the dymax $10 digital thermometer i used to have, variations is +-0.7

so guys, go for the GEX digital if you are splurging, but the most value for money is the glass one. at $3 only

Non Aquarium- PS 3 updates

A little off topic from the main theme here. Recently in anticipation of  a market correction, i sold off my stock in the start of may and shorted some May HSI and took some profits as per today. so while i anticipate the coming correction to pick up some counters, i am flushed with lots of free time to come.

One notable counter i believe i will profit handsomely in the months to come is IndoAgri, share dilution, blah blah blah from analyst and so on. these donkey cant see value even if it was shouting at them. picked it up today at 1.70 for 40lots, will buy more over the next week or so when it should come down steadily for a few cents everyday. This stock is beaten down like the monsoon in Africa. from 2.80 in Jan to 1.7 today. today itself was a 16% correction. All those who bought above 2.2 are forced to sell to cover margin or carry trades, they easily oversold the counter today. No worries i am ready to help them out with 40 lots today.  i remember people were writing off golden agri investment when it was 15c per share, people who picked up will at least double their money or quadruple if you sold off at 80c this January.

Enough about mundane money talk, most people i know hate money, it is a destructive force that draws you away from whats important in life. i have been busy the last 2 months with some travel, golf and aquaria. so i decided to update my PS 3 games collection and pick up some of their fancy limited editions figurine. i got quite a collection now since i started 3 years ago. Today i got one of my new favourites, the limited editions lifesize Helghast helmet and sniper from Kill zone 3.  i upgraded the PS3 with its MOVE controllers as well $329. quite impressed i must say. smooth, responsive and well design.  Pick up some well rated games as well. Killzone 3, SOCOM 4, Crysis 2, Fight Night Champion.

Siam Ocean World in Bangkok

Just got back from a  two weeks trip from Bangkok and HK. Bought Missus shopping and i got to play some golf in Bangkok. what can i say, Bangkok courses never fail to disappoint. and for the first time, i ma glad Bangkok is indeed cooler than Singapore. i left Singapore in the  middle of a heat wave. though i always prefer cold weather golf in China, i just got to make do with Bangkok as missus wanted to go there for shopping. Apparently all luxury goods such as LV, Gucci and Hermes could be 15% cheaper and more if you add in the recently strong sing dollar.

We spend 6 days in Bangkok and its vicinity but i am only going to blog about Aquarium related stuff here. leave the wallet damaging shopping aside and golf is another matter altogether. only one who play golf will know what i am talking about anyway.

I have the pleasure of visiting Siam Ocean world located at the Basement of the massive Siam paragon. entrance fee is 900baht which works out to about $40 Sing. here are some pictures that i took. it is my 2nd time to ocean world and i must say they do maintain their standards and fishes variety. compared to out underwater world, Sentosa should be sent to the police for being a rip off. i managed to do the ocean walk this time round which was totally amazing. you get suited up in a wetsuit complete with underwater helmet and they will take you on a underwater walk in the aquaria with the chance to feed the fishes and get up close with sharks.

Here are a few selected pictures
